Here’s a story to give you paws for thought: a cat from Jersey has just been given two new bionic feet, after a near miss with a combine harvester left it badly crippled.
Noel Fitzpatrick, a neuro-orthopaedic surgeon, performed the ground-breaking operation. Oscar’s new feet are custom-made implants that “peg” the ankle to the foot. They are bioengineered to mimic the way deer antler bone grows through the skin.
Mike Nolan, Oscar’s owner, commented: “He has taken to his new feet really well. He is jumping about, walking as a cat should, eating, sleeping – it’s phenomenal really.”
